Learning Goals: Today, the children shared their thoughts on a number of issues related to social-emotional intelligence through a survey.
Colorado State Standards: N/A
Lesson Overview: Today, the students took a social-emotional intelligence survey. It asked them to answer a number of questions regarding their ability to identify, manage, and express emotions constructively; control impulses; express empathy; persevere when things get difficult and challenging; communicate and relate effectively with others; work collaboratively in groups; and negotiate and resolve differences in a win/win manner. After we had taken the survey, we reviewed the results together as a class. We then did a Family Album exercise that helped the children get to know one another.
Follow Up: None.
Family Discussion Topics: Can emotions that are uncomfortable for us like anger, fear, sadness, and hurt ever be positive forces in our lives?
